SUNY College
The nation's largest and most comprehensive state university system, The State University of New York (SUNY), was founded at Potsdam, New York in 1816. Years later, the Morrill Act of 1862 led to the creation of four Ivy League land-grant SUNY colleges, which now currently exist at Cornell University. SUNY was officially established in February 1948 when New York became the 48th state, of the then 48 states, to create a state university system. SUNY initially represented a consolidation of 29 unaffiliated institutions, including 11 teachers colleges. All of these colleges, with their unique histories and backgrounds, united for a common goal: To serve New York State. Since 1948 SUNY has grown to include 64 individual colleges and universities that were either formerly independent institutions or directly founded by the State University of New York.

Home Dedications

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity Home Dedications

Join Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity for the first two home dedications of 2011 on Monday, February 28 starting at 4:30pm.

Habitat for Humanity has partnered with Waterloo’s Community Development Office to secure funding from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) which allows community partners to purchase foreclosed properties and revitalize neighborhoods.  The home at 422 Bertch Avenue in Waterloo is the third rehabbed home in Waterloo funded by NSP.  This improved property will be a simple, decent and affordable home for Ivonne Troche and her family who were approved for the Habitat program in late 2009.  Help Ivonne and Habitat celebrate the completion of this home by attending the home dedication at 4:30pm.

The fourth NSP funded home to be completed is located at 1333 Leavitt Street in Waterloo and will be purchased by Andrea Magee and her family.  The previous home was badly damaged in a fire and demolished in August, 2010 laying the groundwork for a new Habitat home.  For over a year, the home sat vacant with trees and bushes overtaking the property.  With the help of Habitat, NSP and many volunteers, this new home has truly improved the neighborhood.  Help Andrea and Habitat celebrate the completion of this home by attending the home dedication at 5:30pm.

12th Annual Spring Benefit Auction

  New location this year

Park Place Event Centre off Hudson Road in Cedar Falls will be the new location for Iowa Heartland’s 12^th Benefit Dinner Auction on March 4^th.  Take advantage of valet parking then come in to join us at 6 pm for our Social hour and Silent Auction.  Dinner will be served at 7 pm and the live auction with Gary Kroeger and Ron Steele starts at 8 pm.   Wonderful items will be available (view them at our website heartlandhfh.org/spring benefit.htm where you can also order your tickets) at both the Silent and Live auctions and you will walk away after a good meal, a good time and the knowledge that your money will be used building Habitat homes with families and volunteers in 2011
